Responsibilities
Role Introduction
Reports to: Head of Corporate Performance
This ASM role is appointed to support the Director Engineering to enable him, and his Business Unit (BU) management teams, to operate at their best by having efficient and insightful access to the financial implications impacting on their commercial operations.  The ASM will have the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the airline business and support senior management in decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Driving Service and Business Excellence
  • Proactively build relationships with senior managers and stakeholders embedding a culture of Finance being a trusted business partner within the organisation, also a subject matter expert in Finance contributing to the overall commercial strategy and delivery of results.
  • Ensure financial reports related to line departments are properly prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, the group’s accounting policies, Listing Rules and other statutory requirements.
  • Continually seek to improve the use of IT systems to drive efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of financial accounting and analysis
Analysis and Problem-Solving
  • Complete insightful business performance analysis, proactively investigating variances to identify root causes and engaging colleagues as required (as part of the month end close cycle)
  • Provide both support to and challenge the BUs to ensure that they understand the drivers of performance and proactively manage the operational cost base.
  • Analyse financial problems and convey a coherent position assessment, together with presenting sensible solutions (where appropriate) for management consideration
Financial Planning
  • Develop in conjunction with BU management the annual 3 year budget and plan,  seeking to go beyond the traditional business model, and helping to identify strategic changes
  • Develop rolling forecasts representative of changing operational realities
  • Support operational investment justifications with appropriate IRR/NPV analysis, having a healthy degree of scepticism to challenge management and ensure the commercial reality is represented
  • Provide subsequent monitoring to ensure delivery of expected benefits
Governance and Control
  • Ensure financial controls are adhered to, and improved, in the respective BUs
  • Anticipate issues and raise concerns as necessary at an early stage
Staff Development and Performance Management
  • Work with department heads to assess staff competency and potential
  • Design and conduct internal development programmes as appropriate
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate training/development courses
  • Ensure managers are skilled in setting performance standards and providing constructive feedback and coaching sessions
  • Monitor the Performance Appraisal process and its effectiveness
Requirements
Qualifications / Experience
  • Qualified Accountant (CPA or equivalent) & audit experience with a recognised audit firm 
  • Minimum 7 years' relevant accounting experience with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in a supervisory role
  • Strong leadership qualities with an ability to manage small teams of direct reports
  • Effective problem solving skills with an analytical mind set 
  • Proven planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and presentation
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English (fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin a plus), with a proven ability to convey insightful and informative reports
  • Strong appetite to learn, with an ability & desire to understand the underlying commercial aspects of the relevant business units, willing to challenge the status quo and improve work processes 
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, independently as well as an effective team player 
  • Strong skills in MS Office applications, especially in Excel
  • Experience in using SAP advantageous
  • Helps set, refine and follow applicable financial policies & procedures
  • Builds and maintains a network of strategic relationships
  • Proactively builds an understanding of how the Airline works
  • Proactively seeks new and challenging opportunities/assignments in relevant area
  • Consults widely and tackles problems in a careful and holistic manner, taking time to understand and consider a problem in full before acting
