Senior Manager, Laboratory and Research Safety [HKSTP/SMLRS/220408]
The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Office supports the HKSTP's mission to accelerate technological innovation and commercialization by promoting a safe and healthy environment and ensuring compliance with laws, regulation, and corporate policies. We work closely with our technology clusters and platforms, project development and facility management teams as well as the community around us to strive for excellence.
The Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Safety, Health and Environment. The Senior Manager, Laboratory and Research Safety will plan, manage, and implement the laboratory safety environmental management and hazardous materials management program, including providing regulatory guidance and oversight, technical assistance and consultation, and education and training.

The Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Safety, Health and Environment. The Senior Manager, Laboratory and Research Safety will plan, manage, and implement the laboratory safety environmental management and hazardous materials management program, including providing regulatory guidance and oversight, technical assistance and consultation, and education and training.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for laboratory and research safety management program from pre-handover, pre-occupation, operation to decommissioning
- Safety assessment for R&D activities for BISA, ABU, co-working space projects & ad hoc projects
- Evaluation of hazards associated with operations in laboratory, medical and office premises
- Ensuring scheduled safety inspections covering all wet labs, engineering labs, medical labs and technical rooms
- Responsible for reviewing existing and drafting new laboratory and research safety guidelines
- Responsible for laboratory accident/incident in prevention, response, investigation and reporting
- Provide advice to lab PIC on legislative and corporate requirements as well as international guidance
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Science, Engineering or other related disciplines; Post-graduate degree in Occupational Hygiene, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Engineering is preferred
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant and post-qualification working experience in occupational and health safety in academic institution, scientific research laboratories and/or industrial undertakings; with a minimum of 5 years at supervisory or managerial level
- Professional qualification(s) in occupational health & safety (e.g. RPH, CIH, CSP or COH)
- Conversant in relevant statuary regulations and standards, including but not limited to International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, ISO45001, Radioactive Substances, Biological and Clinical agents
- Proven track record in developing and managing database system on laboratory/research safety related applications is preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
- Candidates with less experience will be considered for lower position
